So what can they even add? I mean we can already choose to play as a female, the Pokémon sprites are all animated (albeit lazily) and there is a ton of stuff to do post Elite 4. What do they actually have to add to this new, third version of the game. THis could be the least worthwhile one to get yet.

I'm expecting a handful of tedious new areas to service the competitive battlers, easier access to all legendaries and some other miscellaneous bullshit. Does anyone else have ideas with what they could do?

I really don't know. At this point they've polished most of the actual UI etc to a mirror sheen. The only improvements they can make now are to make the games.. interesting. That's too big to do in a third game, though. (Although I wonder what gen V will be like.)

Probably some extra plot point involving a legendary, at least.

Does anyone have a scan of the magazine in question? I'd really like to look at the silhouettes the article talks about.

I expect minor plot points to be filled, the introduction of more move tutors, giving different Pokemon access to different moves, and somehow, some way, giving Electabuzz the ability to learn Volt Tackle as it apparently can from game data; assuming Bulbapedia is correct. I expect that to be reflected in the anime considering the main rival Paul has an Electabuzz that is starting to make relations with Pikachu.

This question was asked for all the previous versions, red and blue what can they add to kanto? A pikachu following you, so on a so forth.
Crystal added the Battle Tower and a few interesting features.
Emerald added the Battle Frontier and some other funny looking things.
So some interesting new features, rounded off graphics, and maybe something for more battlers.

-A reward for participating in the contests
-Something to do in the ribbon club
-Team/Double contests? Coordinated dancing! Yay!
-More interactive Pokemon personalities, like Pikachu in yellow
-Access to more old Pokemon and moves; as new games come there are less players of older games
-Actual WiFi battles
-Underground... stuff... I love that minigame... and have too many items from it... but I was playing because I enjoy it, not for items.
-Bag that scrolls fast, even though I've got 25 of every underground item
-Store items in your PC!

Yeah, that would be awesome to rotate the map. Sadly I think that It's just going to be like an Emerald version of DP. Both legendary, maybe Darkrai... I know Shaymin has got to be involved - He's in the new movie coming out in Japan. You see a clip of him for a sec squeaking. Perhaps it will be like Darkrai vs Palkia vs Dialga? I hope they don't end up sticking you with a Pokémon that follows you :(

What, in my opinion, would be great is to just make something none of us would expect.

Take, for example, Emerald. I knew of all the move tutors and the Battle Frontier gimmicks which are quite bemusing. Now what I didn't hear of was the change in wild Pokemon appearing in certain areas. Not version exclusives, either; now suddenly Mightyena is appearing in the rainforest area and the Elite Four Champion is a different man than in the RS games(spoiler, go!).

But, the games I most enjoyed where the GSC games. Why? Being able to visit older maps. That's the one thing they can do to perfect the series; make older regions explorable. Maybe by using the cartridges...

I must agree. GSC was my favorite, probably because of the same reason. However, I doubt that they will allow travel to old gen areas until a newer gen game. The main reason: it would make the current pal park obsolete.

I wish they would improve the secret bases. I really liked the base concept in RSE best. Mostly because of the variety of scenery inside and shapes of the bases, the destroyable scenery and stuff you could put on the walls of the base, and most of all, the fact that you could fight your friends once a day for experience! Though I love having traps in my base, I would rather have it the old way.

I would like them to speed up the game as well. I haven't watched but a hand full of animations because it's already so slow. Plus, it takes 2-4x as long to save. I also wish I could do more with the stylus. I hate that I have to go back and forth so much to use it.

My guess is that they will add another battle tower option, change the story line slightly, and focus more on cresselia and/or giratina. Cresselia, because of the whole "full moon island" being dedicated to seeing it for 0.5 sec. And giratina because of it's alternate form.

Oh, and if they switch the champion to someone who doesn't use a variety of pokemon (again!) I will bitch to no end. The whole concept in the beginning (RBY, the show, etc.) was that you had to be able to use a variety of pokemon in order to 'be the best'. Not base the ENTIRE GAME around water types!

What are we talking about?

I have a feeling that Giratina might be the new, important legend, due to it being linked to Dialga and Palkia, plus being a dual-typed legendary Dragon that's not Dragon/Flying. Why would they base the new game on a pokemon you can only get in an event? Although I can see Mesprit being more important due to having a link with the player character.

spriteless is right - give us more rewards for clearing contests! The Master category is so insanely difficult, I think a player deserves more than just a pretty ribbon for beating the thing.

I'd also love to see some more move tutors - it's a pain having to transport Pokemon from Emerald just for a certain move.

And - if they're going to mess around with the Sinnoh dex (which they probably will, if Giratina will be starring before beating the E4) - then please Nintendo, give us more than one catchable Fire-type!

So does anyone have any opinions on this apparent photo of the magazine which displays Pokemon Platinum? I was watching the chaos unfold at Serebii's forums but since the combined IQ of their moderators equals about 3 I figured I'd ask you guys for your opinions instead.

SPOILARZ WARNING:

It looks like Cyrus is standing in front of an enraged Giratina's shadow - also the battle shot has the main character kitted out in blue with his familiar red beret.

Platinum seems like an unusual choice of name - it's not really gem-like and I was expecting Opal since Giratina will probably be the box cover star. Still, I'm looking forward to any new information we might be getting.

Bulbapedia's down for me right now so I can't read up on the story.

They could actually try improving on the story of the game (like... actually adding one, for instance). It'd be a long shot, but it could happen.

Interesting to note how the katakana says Platina, which would reflect Giratina in its ending. Still kinda odd though.

If there's not a story, how do I become immersed in it?
